Father Sean's Weekly Message

At a wedding feast at Cana, Christ performed the frst of the seven signs (miracles) recounted in the Gospel of John. The lack of wine threatens to spoil the celebration of new love. But the Mother of God notices the need and speaks to her Son. With one word from his Mother, Jesus reveals his divinity so that all people can realize just how much God rejoices in us—just as a bridegroom rejoices in his bride. This revelation of glory leads us, as it led his frst disciples, to deeper belief in Christ. The miracle of "good wine" continues through the outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the chalice of salvation on the altar at every Mass. (Magnificat January 2025, pg. 291)
The wedding at Cana marks the beginning of Jesus’ very public ministry. Now he is revealing to us that the Messiah is here. As we move into this year, I’m praying that more and more of us may view this year as a “time” to begin our public ministry. It will look diferently for most people. But the church and the world have needs in it that I or you are really skilled to help with. Let’s proclaim Christ through our lives with each other.
